Even though it’s only halfway through May, this past weekend truly felt like the beginning of the summer here in Cambridge. We spent almost the whole weekend in our beautiful downtown Galt. Saturday was filled with plants and handcrafted goods at the annual Spring Plant Sale and Eco-Market at the RARE Eco Centre on Blair Road. We were able to purchase a baby tomato plant to add to our summer deck gardens.
Then we made our way to the Cambridge Famers Market, one of our favourite spots to pick up delicious fresh food! We were able to stock up for bbq’s for the week including meat from Carl’s Choice Meats and fish from our friendly fish monger at Caudle’s Catch. Of course, no visit to the Farmer’s Market is complete without some delicious treats from Kristi’s Market Kitchen.
Sunday was another glorious day in our city. An early morning visit to Lady Glaze donuts on Grand Ave made for a delicious start to our Galt adventures. Then after a lovely stroll through the city centre we stopped by Old Galt Bottle Shop for an ice-cold drink. Their staff and atmosphere are amazing. Such a great addition to our riverside neighbourhood.
After a little treasure hunting at Southworks Antiques where we scored some vintage Expos tickets that were an exciting find for our baseball loving family, we made our way to EVO for a delicious lunch before heading to the Old Post Office – Idea Exchange to do some exploring. Our timing was perfect as the goose who made her nest on the roof had just hatched her eggs and was almost ready to show off her babies. We got a little view of them as we checked out the kids floor of the library. The Old Post Office is such a beautiful example of heritage mixed with modern and it allows all residents to enjoy some of the incredible heritage aspects that our city has to offer. Overall, this was a great way to kick off the summer of 2022.
